Is there going to be another dead body during the Riverdale finale? Well, this may be a rumor that there is some truth to.
Speaking while at a press screening for the next two episodes of the CW series, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa made it clear to Entertainment Weekly that there could be a death coming up, just as many people out there are suggesting:
“If the rumored death happens, it would go to set up season 2 … It has all the different elements that are great about the show combined into one, meaning there’s music in it, there’s romance, there’s suspense and horror. It’s kind of like the ultimate Riverdale episode.”
The biggest thing to note about this direction is that it proves that Riverdale is not being altogether afraid of killing off more characters who are beloved to the show. In making this move, what the producers are doing is proving further that they have guts, and they want to keep people on your toes. At this point in the first season, we are liable to trust what the writers have planned given that they’ve constructed a great first season that somehow works despite much of our sentiment going in that a darker take on Archie Comics would never work out. Instead, we’ve had a great mystery with the death of Jason Blossom and a surprising-but-likable pairing between Betty and Jughead.
There are still several episodes to go until we get around to the finale, and as a result of that, we do think that there is plenty of time for things to change and morph before we get to the last episode. We almost don’t want to speculate too much about what’s coming just because a big part of the fun of this show is the mystery of it all. Hopefully, we’ll have some further news on some of the twists ahead as we get closer to the episodes coming.
The one thing that we don’t expect moving into season 2 is Afterlife with Archie, even if this is a project near and dear to Aguirre-Sacasa’s heart. It’s too hard to imagine the show going in that direction even if it has experimented with a few things.
