The third season of the Fox series, starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, is going to be returning come Wednesday, April 26 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. While it’s a little odd that there is a hiatus for the show coming up, there are a few different reasons for it … with one of the biggest ones being the sole fact that they want this show to end in late May, otherwise known as the final day of May sweeps. There are major benefits commercially when it comes to doing this, but we do feel like it’s gotta be frustrating for fans to deal, time and time again, with so many different delays when it comes to the show.
synopsis for “Love is a Smoke” :
“Cookie gives Lucious unexpected news that makes him feel uneasy about the future. Hoping to make Cookie jealous, Giuliana (guest star Nia Long) moves in on Lucious and persuades him to comply with her new plans. Meanwhile, Anika and Tariq devise a new plan and Charlotte Frost (guest star Eva Longoria) holds the EMPIRE Las Vegas dream in her hands.”
The one shred of good news that we can hand in your direction is that the final five episodes will come one right after another. Through these episodes, maybe the show is going to find a way to spark some excitement in the series once more leading into the finale. If you think back to some of the recent ratings trajectory for the show, we’re coming off of some of the lowest numbers we’ve seen to date for the series. We do know that this does happen sporadically over time, but so far this season Empire ratings are down more than 30% in the 18-49 demographic and 25% in total viewers. Sure, the show isn’t in any danger of going anywhere, but we like to see these numbers going in the other direction!
